The Will Is Clear

The other day, due to a friend’s recommendation, I watched the first episode of a series on Netflix, called “The Gentleman”.  At first, I wasn’t quite sure if I could get into it, but I didn’t turn it off (surprisingly), I kept watching. I’m so glad I did! There was something very potent that happened in the first twenty minutes of the episode and it keeps resounding to me.

The show starts off with a young Army officer (Eddie) who’s giving orders as they’re doing what looks like a search of some sort on a highway.  Then, the executor of his father’s estate shows up and informs Eddie that his father is ill and basically doesn’t have long. With that information, Eddie delegates his duties to someone else and returns home.

Upon his arrival, I realized that he had to be royalty when they pulled up to this huge estate, because this wasn’t a regular “house”. And as it turns out, his father is a Duke! Edward walks inside and is greeted by his older brother and younger sister. He goes in to see his father and within a short time of him sitting by his bedside, he dies.

Stay with me…I’m getting to my point.  But before I do, I have a question. Have you ever wondered what your purpose in life was or why it seemed that everybody else had it “figured out” or that those around you were living their best life?

Good…I’m not the only one.

But did you know that whatever you’re effective in, passionate about, and others are influenced by when you do it, is what you should be doing? Even if it doesn’t look glamorous, fun, or exciting…living in your “why” can bless you in so many ways.

Ok…back to the show. They bury Edward’s father, and the next scene goes to the reading of the will. The executor reads what Edward’s mom and sister have inherited. Then, the next order of business is who his father wills his title and estate of 15,000 acres. As tradition would have it, the older son (Freddy) is the natural and expected heir to this. But…not this time.

It is then announced that Edward is now the Duke and owner of the estate!!!!!!!  Craaaazyyyy right?!  Upon the revealing of the new heir, Freddy has a complete conniption! He melts down in the worst way!  He looks at the executor and says, “There must be a mistake. It’s tradition that the eldest son is to inherit this! It goes back to the Bible! Just take a look at it and read it again.”  The executor looks at him after alllllllll of his shenanigans and calmly says…

“The will is clear.”

Whoaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...I’m sorry, but this one line spoke VOLUMES to me. Freddy’s adult tantrum could in no way change what had been decided and written.

You get it, right? If not, let me translate.

It doesn’t matter who feels like a certain thing, person, place, or position belongs to them, whatever God has decided for your life? Is CLEAR. Nothing and I mean nooooothing can change it!

Let me say it like this.  NOTHING and NO ONE can change what has been written in God’s will for YOU…except…you.

I know you’re like, wait…but you just said…yep, I did!

Interesting, huh?  No one else can stop you, but…you.  This is true because how we steward our blessings determines if we keep them. God has already written His will concerning you, so our inheritance is coming, we just have to stay focused on the will, even when our inheritance grows.

Edward inherited that because he was the responsible son.  He could be trusted. He was a good…steward. You’ve seen that word before, right? (refer to my previous blog😊)

One more example and I promise I’m done.

I watched the documentary, “We Are the World”.  They recorded this song the same night after the American Music Awards. It’s 1985…and is considered one of the biggest nights in the music industry.  Those in attendance were the cream of the crop, the best of the best, second to none, the “who’s who” in music. However, while prestigious awards were being given out that night and artists received the praise and approval of their peers as well as their fans, Michael Jackson was…at the studio. He actually lost to Prince that night, but…the will…was clear.

What am I saying?  As big as he was, Michael Jackson stayed behind at the studio to sing the chorus of “We Are the World”.  He was focused…the song went platinum four times, sold over 20 million copies, and raised over 50 million dollars in relief for Africa.  And his solo career? He sold over 750 million…records. Not to mention that his record sales skyrocketed when he died… whewwww!!!

You see, him missing what everyone else considered to be big, caused him to help create something else that was big and would transcend generations.  We are still talking about this one song, and no one is discussing what happened at the AMA’s that night…in 1985…let that sink in.

Here’s one for the road…your life has already been planned.  Keep walking and you’ll see those plans unfold. Don’t compare your “big” to someone else’s. God has a different scale in which he weighs who we are to be.  Please don’t focus on what you don’t have or what you’re not…yet. It’s coming, but remain faithful to what’s in your hands in this moment, at this particular time.

You never know when the will is going to be announced.

Remember, you may be unsure, unsettled, unhappy, unnerved, insecure, incapable (in your mind)…but His will for you?  Is unmistakably, undeniably…clear.
